Back in Canaan again. Haunted by visions day and night, Ralph saddles up his old motorbike and rides through the desert like a turbocharged Moses. He sings 'Hallelujah' and then all those theme-park three-chord staples, and fancies himself a poet until the visions come again. Falling tower, hordes of bats and bloodstained fakirs with horns in their hands. A host of bright blue bees descends and he shrieks.
The Holy Land is so quiet at night he feels like the last man on earth. He looks up at the moon and wishes he could light a cigarette or drink a fifth of firewater. Vicki texts him and asks when he’ll be back. Then he remembers she’s joined the great army of liberty and it’s another vision and he weeps.
He finds it hard to go on like this.
Ralph is not a traitor but he’s going to send all the soldiers in Canaan to dusty death.
